There are several sections that split up the Forbidden City which include the Outer Court which is at the South end. This is considered the office court where all of the officials live. It also includes the Inner Court which is on the North side. This is considered to be the residential court where all of the commoners live. There are three entrances where visitors can come through these are the Gates of Heavenly Peace, Duanmen Gate, and the Meridian Gate. There are also no trees in the square because if the emperor comes outside he needs to see everyone and needs to make sure that no one is trying to hide in the trees to kill him.
